Pandemic Song For Jimmy
03:01
|

Sitting at my kitchen table
With coffee and a garlic bagel
Waiting on the task force morning briefing to begin
The voice of god says "two minute warning"
I hope they talk about the TP hoarding
And let me know when I can go outside again
Football players are still being signed
By rich white men in thick red ties
Not dying for a chance to help me out
Oh, mirror, mirror, on the wall
Tell me how many sick must fall
Before we get our hearts and heads out of the clouds
I’m not patient, but I can wait
To see my friends and family again
Standing at my bedroom window
Switched from coffee to a glass of vino
Listening to the man in charge say everything is fine
Shut up, punk, you’re just making it worse
I love everybody so much it hurts
To stock up shop, come home and wonder why
The working poor, we still gotta eat
Does the Wall matter more than the Main Street
When will we bail out common folks who need it so bad
Oh say can you see how greedy you’ve grown
Our ignorance built disease a home
And here we sit, feels like I’ve been had
I’m not patient, but I can wait
To see my friends and family again
But I am not complacent, I won’t wait
To take my share of what I make

It's Not an Issue
02:50
|
|||
Happy in the moment
Sad when I get home
Living like a snowflake
Falling all alone
Laughing at the sunshine
Hiding in the pain
Tried to paint a picture
But it didn’t feel the same
As finding the words
And feeling the reason
Which of the verbs
Describe how the season
Is making me miss you
But it’s not an issue
I’ll see you when the stars align again
Driving to the airport
Where your plane’s touching down
It’s our second time eye-to-eye
The first since we figured out
When apprehension flew the coop
We got our only wish
I bought you something thoughtful
But it didn’t do the trick
Not like finding the words
And feeling the reason
Which of the adjectives
Capture how the season
Is making me miss you
But it’s not an issue
I’ll see you when the stars align again
Now I’m no academic
I’m no Jerry Jones
I don’t know my credit score
I don’t own a home
But somehow you’re still standing
Wanting at my door
You’ve come a thousand miles
And ya ain't going back no more
And I’ll be finding the words
Feeling the reason
Singing a melody
That sounds how the season
Is making me want you
And oh, how I want to
Love you 'til the Milky Way
Explodes into Andromeda someday
(BOOM)

You seem like an alien, invading Earth to save it from
Foaming men intent on owning every cent there is
And they’ve got kids with hundred dollar bills
Thrills that don’t come cheap and they don’t sleep
And we’re just standing here, waiting for the end
You swear that you’re a human, tho, I believe it, you would know
But something shines so bright in your light
Something shines so bright in your light
Or we could be two aliens, who fall in love as sapiens
On accident, on top of coming down here and saving ‘em
No big fuss, but look at us
We hit it off and did not bust
Now I’m on a veranda making old fashions and salmon for us
You don’t like humans, tho, I understand, they’re sick and slow
But something shines so bright in your light
Something shines so bright in your light
And you say how do you communicate with human beings
How do you do it?
How do you communicate with human beings
How do you do it?
Do it
Living as an alien, sure feels unamerican
Maybe we should move somewhere like Tokyo or Switzerland
Our earthly mission far from done, in fact, we’ve not saved anyone
Got caught up in the pomp and circumstance of all the keeping up
With other humans, tho, I don’t mind the feeling low,
When something shines so bright in your light
Something shines so bright in your light
Now it's time to go again, best of luck our earthly friends
Me and this new love are gonna blast into oblivion
Back out in the outer air, far, far away from here
All apologies for giving up, but you’re beyond repair
Don’t take it too bad, tho, this planet has a pretty glow
When something shines so bright in your light
Something shines so bright in your light
How do you communicate with human beings
How do you do it?
Do it
How do you communicate with human beings
How do you do it?
Do it

Crossdress & Crochet
04:19
|

I seen a lean old man at the butcher’s block, buying skirt steak by the pound
Who asked me if I had ever worn a handmade wedding gown
I just laughed and shook my head, no sir, I have not
He looked around, put his dinner down, and began to shout:
Crossdress and crochet
Stitch a strange design
Keep all of your tools clean
And yourself in line
If you're stuck in the mud
Get out
Say love out loud
It’s a pretty sound
I found an empty aisle to compose myself and think about what he said
Maybe I’ve been wrong all along and should make me a pretty dress
It'd have a sweetheart cut, with a modest hem, polka dots, no doubt
I put my eggs and inhibitions down, and echoed the wisdom I’d found:
Crossdress and crochet
Stitch a strange design
Keep all of your tools clean
And yourself in line
If you're stuck in the mud
Get out
Say love out loud
It’s a pretty sound
There's no better time than the present line to present myself a gift
Like a yard of turquoise velvet, yarn, some bourbon and a sewing kit
I get my kicks on register six, if the neighbors only knew
The checkout boy looked down real coy and said “hey, I do that too”
Crossdress and crochet
Stitch a strange design
Try to keep your nose clean
If your fun don’t mind
If you’re stuck in a rut
So what
Say love out loud
It’s a pretty sound
It's a pretty sound
It's such a pretty sound

Remember Benjamin Franklin or John Prine
Abraham Lincoln or this cousin of mine
They all made an honest living
Working for the U.S. Mail
For Pony Express preschool me
My first recollection of the post office be
The mailman bringing
Them Christmas catalogs
And up through the years they were always on time
A model of consistency and national pride
Authorized by the U.S. Constitution
Might I add
Columbia House meant endless CDs
Publisher's Clearing lottery dreams
And what's that magazine for dad wrapped-up in plastic
Postcards, report cards, birthday cards from grandma
Oh yeah, get it done
If you wanna send something to someone you love
Way over yonder just to stay in touch
You can do it thru the U.S. Mail
Then you graduate to professional stress
And get your very own address
Mailbox, envelopes
Packing tape and stamps
It starts to feel a little more like home
When you see that familiar uniform
Walking up the drive
With all your stuff
Thru rain, snow, cold, and heat
The gloom of night and tired feet
Always with a smile
They deliver
More than sentimental it's a functional necessity
Bedrock for a country that’s claiming such legitimacy
Messenger of sympathy
Promoter of peace and goodwill among men and nations
так точно, oui oui
If you wanna send something overseas
A pen pal letter or a wheel of cheese
You can do it thru the U.S. Mail
Then in 2006, what the president did
Is sign into law an act that exists
Solely for the deliberate sabotage
Of a perfectly good public institution
It’s called The Post Office Accountability Act
An arbitrary mandate revenue tax
That forces them to pay, way in-advance
Fifty years worth of health and benefit plans
Now their P&L’s red and they can’t invest
And they’re way in debt
And to the public eye, it’s a pretty good mess
Ripe for the picking of private sector scavengers
Then 2020 came and tried to break it’s back
But the postal workers said, you can forget all that
We’ve got a job to do, so get out of the way
And we'll show you what makes America great
We say good try, no no
When you gotta stay home, but still want to vote
Maybe even save the world as we know it
You can do it thru the U.S. Mail
We did it thru the U.S. Mail
Long live the U.S. Mail
And all the postal workers

Raid on the Compound
04:39
|
|||
Off in the distance
Appears there a witness
Declaring war on the innocent
Crossing the line
Coming into focus
This is the year of the locust
Was it the truth that broke us
Or was it the lies
Mhmm, mhmm
Raid on the compound
Everybody get down
A little birdie snuck out
Ahead of the Feds
Ran away with the evidence
Bulletproof and obvious
Indisputably in self-defense
The sheriff said
Mhmm, mhmm
They put the witness on a wanted board
For filing a false report
Said it’s happened once before
Twisted sick
That’s the story that I’m sticking to
This is the end of the interview
Time will have it’s way with you
But I gotta split
Mhmm, mhmm
