Boys in the Band (Demo)

I won’t forget the time we spent together
Now get out of my room
I don't pretend to know where I'm going
Do you not know where you're going, too
Seems like now might be a good time to admit
That it's hard as shit
He'd put a little bit of cocaine in his coffee
And call it vitamin C
He cut the body panels off of his Alfa Romeo
And reached historically impressive speeds
He's not a felon, just a fun-loving man
Whom your father may not understand
The boys in the band
Sleeping in a van
Shrugging off the risk
Without so much as a contingency plan
Can we Frankenstein one microphone stand
Lend your hearts, ears, money, and a hand
To the band
The driving force was loud of course, intelligent beyond remorse
Special collector kind
He sang Psycho Killer better than a Talking Head
And wrote a song about perspective from a skeptical mind
He kept me going when the going got rough
I don’t tell him that enough
We may have finally found the secret to short-term success
Keep expectations low
We played Chicago Street on Saturday and moved some feet
Got all dressed up, and all of you came to the show
We played some brand new songs
And everyone there sang along
With the boys and girls in the bands
Sleeping in a van
Shrugging off the risk
Without so much as a contingency plan
Make a little baby dance
Lend your hearts to the band
We'll be back when we can
But we need parts for the van
So give your money to the merchandise stand

Pink & Blonde (Demo)

There's a new girl in the office
Her hair is pink and blonde
I've only seen her one time
Now she's all I want
At break time I'll go up there
And lean on a vending machine
Hoping she gets hungry
Stumbles into me
Singing, hello, my love
Am I in love
Armando thinks I'm crazy
But I believe in love
Just every time it happens
I make the wrong move
As I wander around the warehouse
I wonder what to say
It's kind of like meeting Jesus
On judgement day
Singing, hello, my lord
Am I good enough
My hands are dirty
Hers are clean
She wears a braided lapis ring
I pack boxes like a doggone machine
And she's up there
In the cool air
With her pink hair
Waiting for me
I saw her in the hallway
And found the courage to try
Give a boy a chance
This Friday night
She just laughed and said fiance
Singer in a band
I should come see him
She don't understand
He'll sing "hello, my love
We're so in love"
Everyday I wonder
Why am I alone
I haven't found an answer
And the story goes
There's a new girl in the office
I've seen her once or twice
Enough to know for sure
She's not my type

I never was a frat boy
In my seven years at school
But I'd still puff up and say dumb stuff
Like "Shakespeare was a fool"
And I never got a PhD
Not an STD or drinks for free
But I could find my way
Straight to the floor
It was $6.99 for thirty beers
But all you really needed was ten
To steal a bike and or go and get in a fight
With some dude who's going to make you regret it
I don't regret a lick of it
I learned a little but I lived a lot
If I could change just one thing
I would have sold a little pot
So kids who drop out of school
Be as wild as you can
Learn to break all of the rules
Keep an eye on the man
Or you'll start keeping score
I guess I'm not in college anymore
Academically I was challenged
But I was finally out on my own
Brand new crown, so determined and bound
To fail my lonely way back home
C, D, F, yes, A, B, no
My first year lasted two
I was put on probation for procrastination
Of having anything to do
I'm the first one on my daddy's side
To make it all the way to the end
That just means I put the money down
That I didn't really have to spend
A nine to five can keep you alive
But it feels like a dead man’s crawl
I can’t believe the frequency
These student loan collectors call
So kids who make it through school
Be as wild as you can
Learn to break all of the rules
Keep an eye on the man
Or you'll start keeping score
I guess I'm not in college anymore
So kids who don't go to school
Be as wild as you can
Learn to break all of the rules
Keep an eye on the man
Or you'll start keeping score
I guess I'm not in college anymore

I can hear commotion breathing still
And can still remember how it felt
I can see the motion
Of the throw that broke the spirit
Of the marriage with a crushing final blow
I was just a boy inside my shoes
But upstairs I was less and less confused
I knew that it was ending
And there's no sense in pretending
There's anything that anyone could lose
Come on too strong
Find your self committed
To someone you can't live with
Looking out for snippets you can lean on
Baby, when the thrill is gone
I don't remember how they used to treat
The other like a prophet or a thief
It seemed like love was only
A condition of the lonely
But still I found it near enough to keep
Now I have never thought to settle down
The wanderlust inside me's just too loud
I can't decide on anything
A wedding ring or baby name
I'm happy with a night out on the town
Come on too strong
Find your self committed
To someone you can't live with
Looking out for snippets you can lean on
Baby, when the thrill is gone
Now dad is gone and mom is going strong
She was by his side when he passed on
He said you are my angel, there’s no way that I can thank you
She smiled and said our son will write a song (and call it)
Come on too strong
Find your self committed
To someone you can't live with
Looking out for snippets you can lean on
Baby, when the thrill is gone
